This is Eyal Sela's
first release, in which the dominant instrument that he uses is the clarinet,
an instrument that has been popular around the Balkans for centuries,
especially among the resident Jews.
Eyal Sela, a classical music trained musician, had broadened his horizons
years ago when he discovered world music, focusing mainly on middle eastern
traditions and as can be easily heard, on music originating from the Balkans,
mostly Turkish and Yugoslavian.
Eyal Sela is accompanied here with a variety of musicians and instruments.
His clarinet and saxophone are joined with classical and electric guitars,
Mediterranean percussion and a western drum set, fretless bass and an
oud, probably the most classical instrument of the east.
This CD captures the true spirit of the Balkan music, alongside a slight
twist towards a modern interpretation by one of Israel's more interesting
young musicians.
