Sacred Music of the Middle East

The sacred musical traditions of Judaism, Sufism (Islamic mystical tradition) and the Christian Armenian Church are joined together into an extraordinary harmonious world of its own. A Song of Sufi origin from Turkey is sung both in Arabic and Hebrew, a Jewish prayer from Morocco is introduced by an Armenian chant and a Yemenite Jewish prayer receives a gripping clarinet solo in the best tradition of the Armenian performance style.
Arranged by composer and world-music record producer Yuval Ron, these tracks are all about emotion and passion. It is soulful mystical music that touches upon the ancient and deep inter-cultural connection the three sacred traditions share.
As the Middle East remains a region saturated with conflict and hatred The Yuval Ron Ensemble is releasing an unusual CD uniting the sacred music of the three religions of the Middle East. Since their stirring presentation at the World Festival of Sacred Music in LA last September, the ensemble focused on re-creating the live concert experience in the recording studio environment.
The multi-ethnic ensemble features the great Middle Eastern singer Najwa Gibran (recently appeared on the soundtrack of Helen of Troy) and Armenian woodwind master Norik Manoukian (featured duduk player on Dead Man Walking soundtrack).
The first track - TUDARA - was chosen by Continental Airlines to be played in their In Flight program in their flight all over the world.

Formed in 1999, The Yuval Ron Ensemble includes Arabic, Israeli and Jewish musicians as well as Christian Armenian artists who unites the sacred musical traditions of Judaism, Sufism (Islamic mystical tradition) and the Armenian Church into an unusual mystical, spiritual and inspiring musical celebration.
The ensemble is actively involved in creating musical bridges between people of the Jewish, Muslim and Christian faiths, and is dedicated to fostering an understanding of Middle Eastern cultures and religions through music.
The Yuval Ron Ensemble has enjoyed overwhelming community support in their six years together. The Ensemble was chosen to be featured in the up coming PBS “Holiday Celebration” TV special to be broadcast nation-wide in December 2005 and was honored with the Los Angeles Treasures Award in 2004.
The Ensemble has been invited to perform and lecture at numerous festivals, colleges, and music venues across the United States. In 2002 and 2005, the ensemble was featured at the World Festival of Sacred Music in Los Angeles. In fall 2005, The Yuval Ron Ensemble was in residency at Brandeis University in Boston, and was honored to be first American based Middle Eastern Ensemble to perform at an International Peace Festival in South Korea.
In addition, the ensemble was chosen by the Mid Atlantic Foundation and the NEA to represent the USA and its cultural diversity at the International Music Festival in Lublin in December 2005.
Najwa Gibran is one of the most talented Middle Eastern singers living in the west. She began her musical studies at the Conservatory of Music in Haifa, Israel and after immigrating to Canada she continued her studies at the Royal Conservatory in Toronto. With her father Marun Tannus, she studied Middle Eastern vocal techniques and Maqamatt (traditional Middle Estern musical scales system).
Aside from being the solo artist and lead vocalist with Canada’s Arabesque Dance Company, Najwa performed in numerous music festivals such as "A Concert for the Peace, Health, and Prosperity" (New York City), "Festival Of lights" (Toronto), "Holiday Of Holidays" (Israel) and "Bridging the Silence" (Toronto) to promote peace in the Middle East.
Yuval Ron is an international composer and record producer. He has done field recordings in the Sinai desert with the Bedouins and produced the record One Truth of Turkish master musician Omar Faruk Tekbilek on World Class Records. His latest CD ONE on Magda Records features Omar Faruk Tekbilek, Yair Dalal, Azam Ali, Pejman Hadadi, Nabil Azzam and Haim Louk. A recipient of multiple grants from National Endowment for the Arts, the Rockefeller Foundation, the American Composers Forum and the California Council for the Humanities, Yuval has worked with the Moscow Symphony, the LAJS Symphony, and the New Hampshire Philharmonic.
In 1998 he released his first solo recording "In Between the Heartbeat" on Simulacra Records, followed by the CD "In the Shallows" in 2001. He produced the double album “Masada - the Musical Saga” starring Davis Gains and provided the ethnic music cues for “Helen of Troy” (US Network). Yuval Ron is the producer & host of the world music concert series “The International Underground” at the UCLA Hammer Museum. He is also a noted lecture and leader of workshop who taught at numerous schools in the US and abroad, including Berkeley College of Music, MIT, UCSD, SCUN, UCSC, Boston Center for The Arts, Santa Monica College, Emerson College, Dean Junior College, Camera Obscure and the Sam Spiegel Jerusalem Film School.

בעוד המזרח התיכון רווי בקונפליקטים, אנסמבל יובל רון מוציא לאור אלבום המאחד את המוסיקה הקדושה של שלושת הדתות של המזרח התיכון. מאז הופעתו המלהיבה ב-World Festival of Sacred Music בלוס אנג'לס בספטמבר האחרון, התמקד האנסמבל ביצירה מחדש של חוויית הקונצרט החי באולפן ההקלטות עבור אלבום זה.
האנסמבל המולטי-אתני כולל את הזמרת המזרח-תיכונית הגדולה נג'ואה ג'יבראן (לאחרונה השתתפה בפסקול הסרט "הלנה מטרויה") ומאסטר כלי הנשיפה מעץ הארמני נוריק מנוקיאן (ניגן על דוּדוּק בפסקול הסרט "גבר מת מהלך").
השיר הראשון "טוּדרה" הינו עיבוד ארמני בנגינת דודוק שמיימית של השיר מפורסם של שלמה בר. שיר זה נבחר ע"י חברת התעופה הבינלאומית Continental Airlines לתוכנית המוסיקלית של טיסותיה בכל העולם.
כן מופיעה באלבום התפילה התימנית הידועה "דרור יקרא" בביצוע מיוחד במינו.

האנסמבל פועל ליצירת גשרים מוסיקליים בין העמים והאמונה היהודית, המוסלמית והנוצרית, ומסור לטיפוח והבנה של התרבות והדתות השונות של המזה"ת באמצעות המוסיקה.
במהלך שש שנות קיומו, זכה אנסמבל יובל רון לתמיכה והכרה בכל העולם.
האנסמבל נבחר להופיע בספיישל הטלביזיוני “Holiday Celebration” ב- PBSמהמיועד לשידור ארצי בארה"ב בדצמבר 2005, וב-2004 זכה ב- Los Angeles Treasures Award. האנסמבל מוזמן להופיע ולהרצות בפסטיבלים, קולג'ים ומועדונים בכל רחבי ארה"ב.
בשנים 2002 ו-2005, הופיע האנסמבל ב- World Festival of Sacred Musicבלוס אנג'לס. בסתיו 2005, הופיע האנסמבל במשכן אוניברסיטת ברנדיס בבוסטון, וזכה לכבוד להיות האנסמבל המזרח-תיכוני האמריקני הראשון להופיע ב- International Peace Festival בצפון קוריאה. בנוסף, נבחר האנסמבל ע"י ה- Mid Atlantic Foundation וה-NEA לייצג את ארה"ב ומגוון תרבויותיה ב-International Music Festival בלובלין בדצמבר 2005.
